DISCLAIMER & WARNING

Updating your DVD drive by a firmware update is a sensitive operation. If
anything goes wrong you'll end up with a damaged drive and you must have it
replaced. The damages are NOT covered by any warranty, so you'll have to
pay the repair! Don't run it if you're not confident about it, or if you
can't afford to take the risk.

INFORMATION

This update is for Matshita (or Matsushita) UJ-857E drives which currently
have firmware revision "ZB0E". You can find the firmware version that your
drive has installed by using the system profiler.
(apple menu->about this mac->more info->disc burning
and look at "Firmware Revision").

Once your drive is region free you will need to use a utility such as
"Region X" to handle the region changes for the region checks which are
still present in the Mac OS X software itself. (Or equivalent software
if you using the drive from Windows)

Be sure your drive has been assigned a region before upgrading. If you are
not sure if a region has been set you can use a utility like "DVDInfo X" to
check. If DVDInfo X displays "No region set", then play some movie(s) until
it displays "Region 1" (or any other region number).

This zip file contains two updaters called:

Update ZB0E to region free
Update ZB0E to standard

These updaters must be run from Mac OS X (v10.3.9 Panther, v10.4.6 or
later Tiger) and will begin their action as soon as they are launched
or double clicked. They will check that the current firmware is "ZB0E"
and if so will flash either the RPC-1 (region free) patched version or
the original ZB0E.

Since both the original and the patched are called ZB0E launching the
updater corresponding to your currently installed version (patched or
original) will simply cause the existing firmware to be overwritten
again with an identical version. It is not advisable to do this
intentionally as the operation is quite critical and the drive can
not be flashed an unlimited number of times.

Once started, don't interrupt the firmware process in any way!
